Now, I for one welcome the return of mechanical web shooters.  Not because I’m a comic purist, but because I’m a scientific purist.  I would argue that, if he supposedly got “organic web shooters” from genetically altered spider venom, then one must also address the scientific fallacy that spiders spin webs from their arms.  I understand that for the purposes of a PG-rated movie, having a superhero that drops his pants and moons villains in order to trap them in a web is probably not desirable (to say nothing of the fact that he would be swinging backwards through the city) … but this would still have been preferable to the “dancing emo Peter” we got in that last movie.
