I try to spread my listening around to passionate individuals, rather than “streaming radio networks” like 181.fm — who have a lot of breadth, but none of the depth. Still, some do it better than others, and these guys are legit good, despite a website that looks like 1998 puked on my screen.
In particular, I am really digging the vibe of their Fusion Jazz station. MAYBE it leans a bit heavy on Alan Holdsworth, but since he’s my favorite guitar player, I won’t complain too much. The one thing I didn’t need, however, was the rabbit hole down the many iterations and spinoffs of the band “Gong” that I was blissfully unaware of, until they pushed my music-obsessive brain into Googling their story this morning.
Now, I’ve wasted the last couple of hours sampling such bands as Shamal Gong, Planet Gong, Mother Gong, New York Gong, Gong II: Electric Boogaloo, Gong and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull …
